Early Years of Radio: In 1975 at the age of 15 at legendary 570 KLAC in Los Angeles Jesse helped Harry 'Hi ya! Hi ya! Hi ya-Doin!' Newman (his adopted God Father) around the studio on the weekends. In 1978 he worked at Los Angeles Valley College's Radio Station programing a Top 40 dance and new wave music show. In 1980 he was at Gannett Radio in Los Angeles working and doing everything and anything while finishing his undergraduate studies at CSUN where he was also on 88.5 KSCN in Northridge programing 'The Valley Rock Shift' along with his partner. 'The Valley Rock Shift' was a nightly new wave, punk rock, and dance music formatted show airing on the local NPR affiliate from midnight to 5 AM daily. A very popular show that broke new talent from the L.A. Club and underground music and party scene of the 80's. An alternative to heavily formated KROQ, KIIS FM, KUTE 102, and KLOS stations. It combined all forms of new and popular music that had a hard edge and something to say, and was local and international. Live interviews, performances, and the introduction of so many new acts of which some made it and many did not. That was where Jesse started to bring new acts to IRS and A&M records with not much success, but it laid the ground work for future things to come when he became one of the Original Radio Personalities at 'AM STEREO 1580 KDAY' in late 83' . When KDAY changed format from R&B and went 24/7 Rap/Hip-Hop/and High Energy Dance for almost a decade. It was the very first station in the world to make that change which Jesse was part off and where he made a mark for his name in history. The KCSN show lasted until 1982. During that time Jesse also was on the air at KPRZ a Christian Contemporary format. It latter turned into 'Al Hams Music Of Your Life' where he did two weekend shifts. He also worked across the hall at KIIS FM for Mike Wagner. He also created two shows, wrote, produced, engineered, acted, and was a reporter on a few short lived syndicated radio shows called 'The Rock Drama', and 'The Modern Music Magazine' featuring host Billy Jugs, at Syndicate It. Hunting Down The Radio Dream: After graduating from college with degrees in speech and communications, and business Jesse continued to work at KIIS FM in the news department in the early 80s while pursuing an acting career, voice over career, radio career, and real estate career. With a great reference letter from Mr. Ward (Bill Ward) opportunities to work at KGGI in Riverside, and KMEN in San Bernardino popped up while at that same time making a quick stop as Production Director and fill-in and weekended at KMGG Magic 106 in Los Angeles for Jeff Salgo. Several years and a multitude of stations came and went in the IE for Jesse then he landed at 59 KFXM in San Bernardino (PD Craig Powers) which put him on the fast track to Los Angeles Radio for a full time capacity. He also joined 93 KHJ in 1983 working for Walt Sabo (PD Rick Scary) doing this new concept called 'Car Radio' while playing the hits. According to Jesse...."One of the most thrilling times of my radio career was when I first opened the mic, early on a Sunday morning write after Casey's American Top 40, and said....'93 KHJ Los Angeles....Good Morning The Brown Beauty's On Duty Jesse Torrero ....Car Radio 93 KHJ....I hit that post tight baby! The Acting and Voice Over Business: During these years he reignited his acting profession from early childhood years. Studied with the esteemed and well respected actor Guy Stockwell , also studied in the science of NLP and Hypnotherapy, for what turned out to be a multi decade tour of study, mentor, and friendship with Mr. Stockwell. Jesse was eventually signed by The Honey Sanders Theatrical Agency, Cavalier Agency, SBV, Ahbrams Rubelof, The Shumaker Agency, and Lucero Management. Jesse was cast in few low budget films, and he had a regular role on The Days Of Our Lives, Santa Barbara, General Hospital, Trapper John MD, and others. Did many commercials like Clorox Bleach, Taco Bell, McDonalds, Jack n The Box, Levis, Nike Sports, Century 21, Red Carpet Realty, ReMax Realty and others. In the voice acting business he has done many agency voice overs for many different companies, and 1000's of radio commercials while working at different radio stations all around Southern California. He also became a member of Industry Wide recognized 'Actors Ally Repertory Company' now in the NOHO, and 'Theater Theater on Melrose' performing in dozens of productions. One of the very first voice over experiences he did was ,while cutting tape at Wally Bur recording studios in Burbank where they were doing the original cartoon series of the 'Transformers', he got the chance on many occasions to do pick ups sound affects using his voice, and fill voices. The Radio Story Continues, As It Goes: On the AIR at 59 KFXM he was heard by Jon Bandeaux Production Director of 1580 KDAY . Jon was driving through San Bernardino one night stopped in to see his old station where his career started. Jon took Jesse's air check and gave it to PD Jack Patterson at 1580 KDAY. Jack Patterson and Greg Mack had just changed the KDAY format to RAP/HIP-HOP/High Energy Dance. It was the first 24/7 station of its kind in the world, and in a major market no less. They were looking for a new young hispanic male that could bridge the gap and Jesse fit the bill. Jesse joined the new broadcasting team (Russ Parr, J.J. Johnson Greg Mack,Lisa Canning, Mark Morganella, Don Tracey, Steve Woods, Jack Paterson, and Jesse Torrero), and stayed on the air at 1580 KDAY for almost a decade. For many years he was the only hispanic Radio Personality in the country doing RAP and HIP HOP on the air Full Time. While on the air Music Director Greg Mack gave Jesse an opportunity to host a new show on Saturday Night from 10PM till 4AM. It was 'Hot' a live program that actually aired a new concert every weekend from a venue in Los Angeles. Live on KDAY. This was not some boring typical radio remote, it was to be 100% live just like the old days of radio where everything was heard. Featuring the hottest acts of the time performing live on the radio. Along with so much crazy off the hook fun and surprises it sometimes was like a variety show on the air or the 'Gong Show' on steroids with constant music, or a revival with pounding hard edge music, interviews like Soul Train, contests like 'Lets Make A Deal, strippers, dancers, sometimes play by play fights on the dance floor or just stupid mistake filled excitement the audience heard it all. It was not perfect and never was supposed to be that's what made it #1 on Saturday Night., along with some out of this world live mixing on the wheels of steel. The house was always packed 900-4000 strong every weekend, what a 'Buzz'. It was called 'The High Energy Show' . Jesse took complete control of the show and went on to make that show a big hit on the weekends. Greg Mack kept the pure Rap show on Friday night called Friday Night Live with the Mack Attack. The combination was powerful and made lots of money for everyone. It lasted for several years. Jesse is one of the original pioneers of HIP HOP/RAP Radio in the world. He has interviewed almost every major artist of that genre at that time. Sadly though it ended when the music started crossing over and popping up on the FM's (KPWR Came On Line). He was the third last voice to be heard on THE ORIGINAL1580 KDAY , yes the legendary station that 'Wolfman Jack' was on along with so many others. Some of the greatest radio personalities of the 20th century. With J.J. Johnson ( the perfect guy to be the last voice ever to be heard on AM Stereo 1580 KDAY, Los Angeles) saying the last good bye the station went dark and into AM static. Yet another truly sad day in Los Angeles Radio History and the loss of another great AM giant. A true radio junkie while working at 1580 KDAY Jesse could also be heard on many stations up and down the California Coast: KACY, Q105, KMYX, KMEN, KUHL, KIST, KCKC, KNJO, XHRM, KWNK, KKBZ, KMGG, KBIG, KIK FM and many others using several different names. Jesse has performed on stage as a MC in a multitude of hundreds and hundreds of times during his career. The Record Business: He is the CEO of WINWINWIN, Inc. a entrepreneur company. Wik'd Entertainment and Management is a division in the company that has placed new artists with Motown Records, Mac Daddy Records, Sunshine Records and Entertainment, Macola Records, and Arista Records (Clive Davis). In 90-93' he teamed up with Sunshine bringing 'Hazze' who was recently released from Motown to the label where they formed the group called 'The Movement'. The result was a Billboard Top 40 hit, and Billboard #1 Dance Hit called 'Jump Everybody'. At Sunshine he was Vice President and Director of Sales, and handled co-management responsibilities. Arista Records soon came calling for 'The Movement'. Partnering up with Sunshine (Grammy Nominated and Multi Platinum Record Producer Walter Kahn-who taught Jesse much about the record business) he helped the group attain Gold Record Status in several nations. He discovered recording artist 'Miranda' who had several west coast hits and charted videos, Rage Of Rave, Meche Loc, Diamond, Rebecca (#5 Jamaican Dance Hall hit in Jamaica and Islands) that all had regional hits. A position for a talk show host came up at 710 Talk KMPC for a weekend show. He pitched a show called 'The Computer Guys' which aired for about a year where Jesse was the co-host and producer. A few years ago Jesse worked at KCMG Los Angeles MEGA 92.3 where he did the swing shift and weekends for PD Mike Marino for several years during the time John London was doing mornings, and Comedian George Lopez tried his hand at morning radio.
